Chittagong - Dhaka - Rajshai - Paharpur - Natore - Bogra - Mahasthangarh - Kusthia -Jessore - Khulna - Shat Gambuj Mosque - Barishal - Patuakhai – Kuakata – Dhaka – Chittagong

RAJSHAHI

Rajshahi City:

Rajshahi University: Rajshahi University is located in a 753 acres (3 km²) campus in Motihar, 3 kilometers (2 mi) from the Rajshahi city centre. It is one of the largest universities in Bangladesh.

Varendra Research Museum: Situated at Rajshahi, this museum has a rich collection of objects of Mohenjodaro and also of 16th to 19th century A.D.

Rajshahi Padma: Rajshahi city in western Bangladesh is situated on the north bank of the Padma River.

Rajshahi Shopura Silk Industry: Rajshahi is particularly well known all over the world for the Rajshahi silk and related products.

Barakuthi: Barakuthi (16th century Dutch establishment) is a major tourist attraction for its cemetery; it has groves, belonging to the nineteenth century.

Shrine of Hazrat Shah Mokhdum (Rh.): It is a Majar or Dorga(Shrine)is established around the grave of Hazrat Shah Mokhdum Ruposh(Rh.) in Rajshahi city.

Chhota Sona Mosque: One of the most graceful monuments of the Sultanate period is the Chhota Sona Masjid or Small Golden Mosque at Gaur in Rajshahi Built by one Wali Muhammad during the reign of Sultan Alauddin Husain Shah (1493-1519).

Puthia: Puthia is 23km (14mi) east of Rajshahi and 16km (10mi) west of Natore. Catch a bus from either town.

Paharpur : Paharpur is a small village 5 km. west of Jamalganj in the greater Rajshahi district where the remains of the most important and the largest known monastery south of the Himalayas has been excavated. Paharpur an important archaeological site in Bangladesh, situated in a village named Paharpur (Pahadpur) under the Badalgachhi Upazila of Naogaon district. The village is connected with the nearby Railway station Jamalganj, the district town Naogaon and Jaipurhat town by metalled roads.

NATORE

Maharaja’s Palace (Natore Place of Dighpatiya Rajbari): About 40 km. from Rajshahi by roads is Natore, an old seat of Maharajas with a beautiful palace now serving as the Uttara Ganabhaban (President's Official residence of the northern region). It was residence of the Dighapatiya Raj.

BOGRA

Mahasthangarh

Mahasthana, the oldest archaeological site of Bangladesh is on the western bank of river Karatoa 18 km. north of Bogra town beside Bogra -Rangpur Road. Mahasthangarh and Paharpur are only 18 km. and 75 km. respectively from Bogra town. You can go to Mohasthanagar from Bogra town, 10 km. away. Don’t forget to visit Mahasthangarh museum while visiting Mahasthangarh. Mahasthana Buddhist Stambho is another attraction for the tourists; it is locally called as Behula’s Basar.

KUSHTIA


Kuthibari

Carries the memory of the Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore who made frequent visits to this place and used to stay in connection with the administration of his jamindari and enriched Bengali literature through his writings during that time. It is located at a distance of about 20 km. from Kusthia town. About 75 km. from Pabna town, it is also a historical place connected with the frequent visits of poet Rabindranath Tagore.

JESSORE (Khulna Division)

Shagordari

This is another tourist spot, which is in Jessore district, under Khulna Division. Sagordari is famous for the residence of Great poet Michael Modhusudon Datta, famous for his wonderful composition of sonnets. He was born in the year 1824 and died in 1873. This two-storied residence, which is known as Michel Modhusudon museum, is now under the custody of Bangladesh Archeological Department, where you can see the daily usage materials of the great poet. Every year from 25-30 January a great mela (exhibition) is organized here, which is called Modhumela need after our beloved poet. A huge crowd comes to Shagordari every year for the occasion of this mela.

Khulna

Mongla: It is the second largest seaport of Bangladesh.In Bangladesh Economy Mongla Port plays a vital role. There are a good number of prawn hatcheries in Mongla.

Shat Gambuj Mosque: In mid-15th century, a Muslim colony was founded in the inhospitable mangrove forest of the Sundarban near the seacoast in the Bagerhat district by an obscure saint-General, named Ulugh Khan Jahan.

Shrine of Hajrat Khan Jahan Ali: Besides the Shat Gambuj Mosque, shrine of Hajrat Khan Jahan Ali is only 3 km ahead. You can go there by rickshaw (a three wheeled peddler). A great number of tourists go the shrine to pray for this great man Hajrat Khan Jahan Ali. From this shrine a steamer goes to the Thakur Dighi where you will find the ancient crocodiles in this Dighi. (Dighi is a local name of larger pond) Besides this Dighi a Nine Gambuj Mosque is an attraction also for the tourists.

Barishal Division

Durga Sagor: In Barishal town you can visit Durga Sagor - a beautiful Dighi where lot of guest birds comes every winter season. This is also a beautiful park where you can spend your leisure time by roaming around the park and watching the birds.

Horinghata

Horinghata is a place where you can see deer roaming around. In Horinghata forest sometimes the Royal Bengal Tiger is seen. Horin is a Bengali word for deer. So name itself express why it’s called Horinghata. You can go to Horinghata from Borguna District.

Kuakata

Kuakata in Latachapli union under Kalapara Police Station of Patuakhali district is about 30 km in length and 6 km in breadth. It is 70 km from Patuakhali district headquarters and 320 km from Dhaka.

You can visit Buddhist Temple at mishrawpara where you can see the statue of Goutom Buddha and two wells of 200 years old. Local name of the well is Kua and Kata is a local name of digging a well; so was the name Kuakata. This Kua is beside the rakhayin market. Fisherman village is another place where you can visit and watch the lifestyle of the Fisherman.

From Kuakata you can visit to a part of the great Sundarban forest, which is called Gangamoti Reserve Forest. Don’t forget to visit Fatra’s Chor another tourist place nearby Kuakata.

The unique customs and costumes of the 'Rakhyne' tribal families and Buddhist Temple of about hundred years old indicate the ancient tradition and cultural heritage,

Means of Communication: one may travel by road or water to Kuakata or Patuakhali. From Dhaka you can go to Patuakhali by bus & from there by microbus to Kuakata. It is advisable to go Patuakhali by launch, which is an overnight journey, and you can enjoy the unique beauty of Bangladesh Rivers at night time during this journey. Instead of Patuakhali you can go to Khepupara by launch, which is also an overnight journey and from Khepupara you can go to Kuakata by microbus. A direct BRTC bus service is also available from Dhaka to Kuakata that leaves from Sayedabad Bus terminal at night takes 12 hours to reach Kuakata. But it might be a hectic bus journey as a number of ferries are there on the way to Kuakata by road. BRTC has introduced direct bus service from Dhaka to Kuakata via Barishal.
